The interior was spacious enough to accommodate a driver and 4 passengers. Depending on a rear seats position, volume of the luggage compartment could be 200–775 litres. Road clearance was 170 mm.
Both suspensions were independent and of the MacPherson type. Only the front axle was equipped with brake discs, the rear one was equipped with drums.
About 10 versions of Subaru Justy I (KAD) (1984–1995) were produced during the years of manufacture. All of them were equipped with petrol power units. Front- and four-wheel-drive versions were offered to customers. There were two available transmissions: 5-speed manual and stepless continuously variable transmission. The latter had a sport mode, which increased engine RPM almost twice.
1.2 SL 4WD version was rather popular. It was equipped with a 3-cylinder 9-valve engine with 68 hp output. Maximum torque of the engine was 95 N⋅m. It was reached at 3600 rpm engine speed. Acceleration to 100 km/h took 16 seconds. The top speed was 152 km/h. Average fuel consumption reached 7.1 litres per 100 km. The carrying capacity was 455 kg. There was a five-speed manual gearbox.
The version was equipped with all-wheel drive. The rear axle was manually enabled by means of a transfer case if necessary. This allowed to improve vehicle performance in off-road conditions and on the slippery surfaces. At the same time, fuel consumption was rather efficient.
